Because it was busy season, the hotel found us a room in a hotel besides in the same style. They were so helpful and made our stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel is Old Beijing style, located in a courtyard, well beautiful.
When I walked into Courtel I thought I had died and gone to heaven it was one of the most beautiful places I have stayed. My partner also shared this thought. It gave me so much pleasure just so beautiful. The Courtel staff were excellent so gracious and always making sure everything was ok. Restaurant was very empty while we there so not very inviting when there is only 4 guest dining in a generous sized area.
The location is perfect only 3 minutes walk fron Subway Anjingmen. The hotel is very cozy. The staff is very friendly and some speak English. The breakfast is simple but the quality is ok. The shower is nice, lots of water and hot. The airco is working well. There are cheap shops in the neighbourhood for (fast)food, bags, shoes etc. The surroundings of the hotel is nice with a park in front and a hutong at the back. It is a very nice hotel with many authentic chinese details.
The website of the hotel shows also diner facilities, but I recommend to eat in town. The hotel has a 4 star potential, but in some aspects it earns only 2 stars. Part of the inner court is in open air and when it rained a lot, a lot of water was there, so we had to wade through the water to get to our room. The cook is very nice, but doesn't speak English. Ask for a scrambled or baked egg only, otherwise you will get a plate full of bacon aswell.
This is a hotel with real difference for China. The hotel consists of a number of old traditional Chinese courtyard houses. Strikingly different compared to many modern Chinese hotels, the place has a great atmosphere and lots of interesting design features and antique furniture. The staff were friendly and helped carry our bags to our room. Breakfast was toast, fried eggs and bacon with tea, coffee and orange juice. As an English person in China I found the Beijing Courtel and surrounding area a very welcome oasis from the usual noise, smells and chaos of most other areas of Bejing!
Its a little rough around the edges, which wasn't a major problem for me as it was still more clean and comfortable than most other Chinese accomodation. With a fresh coat of paint, some minor maintenance work and a more thorough cleaner this hotel could be an amazing place to stay. I would still recommend it for anyone who wants to see more traditional Chinese culture than modern Beijing.
This hotel locates in Hutone where old cultural monuments are maging with hi-tech facilities
I din´t like this hotel, I Changed the next day
Terrible place, not clean, not comfortable, smell bad
It is a very old house and the rooms are very small and dark, The bathroom is at the entrance of the room and does not have a proper wall for the shower. Nevertheless, we had the best breakfast that we could have for 3 weeks in China. It is good located, very near to the tram station and the staff speaked also very good english. The staff is very friendly and helpfull.
The traditional design/ atmosphere. The staff was wonderful to say the very least. Breakfast was the best ever!
The architectural design was fine. Location is excellent, close to Andingmen metro station.
Unskilled staff with poor English.
Everything from the pickup to my departure was perfect. The hotel staff and owners were wonderfully accomodating. The meal at the hotel restaurant was fabulous. The Courtel and its grounds looked better than even what was captured in pictures. All of the little details in both decor and service were executed to a tee making for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
The stall were lovely and tried very hard to please breakfast was very basic and rooms very small but clean.
Friendly staff. Interesting hutong location near canal and not in a touristy area.
Not very convenient for anything part from the Andingmen underground station and difficult to find, especially at night. Our room was in a small courtyard block some way from the main building where breakfast was taken and bore little resemblance to the website pictures - peeling paint, bodged fittings and no hanging space. Description says chinese breakfast which is partly why we booked, but only poor american breakfast. Hotel makes a big thing of being non-smoking, but the chef was seen smoking in the kitchen over the breakfast.
The hotel is in the traditional hutong style with small courtyards with 4 or 5 rooms. There is a breakfast room with two tables and an America/European style breakfast of eggs, toast, coffee and juice.
There is no storage in the rooms except for a few coat hooks. Also, only one English language channel. No hbo or bbc or cnn.
